Your volunteer uniform (hat, golf shirt and name badge) is provided by the NYSGA. Pick it up in the golf shop starting Saturday, October 3 at 12:00 PM.

VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENTS & SHIFT TIMES (APPROXIMATE)
Assignments will be emailed and posted here Friday afternoon, October 2. In the meantime, check the list below and let Deb Spilman know about any changes. Below are the approximate shift times to support you in your scheduling.

Park in the member parking lot as usual. Check in at the player registration tent before every shift. The location is TBA and will likely be near the practice putting green. Spotters will be given access to a golf cart to either use in protecting players or park while spotting.

SCHEDULING

The volunteer schedule will be emailed Friday evening and posted here, based on your preferred roles and availability. If your availability changes, even at the last minute, please text Deb Spilman (see below).

LUNCH

Volunteers are welcome to the player lunch in the clubhouse from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Plan to eat before or after your shift.

WEATHER
October in Buffalo can change quickly, so be prepared and dress in layers:

  • Wear weather-appropriate outerwear over your uniform shirt, plus rain gear and comfortable, waterproof shoes.
  • Bring an umbrella. Binoculars and a phone charger are helpful for spotters.
  • If play is suspended for dangerous weather, return to the clubhouse immediately to seek shelter.
  • The NYSGA will text and email all volunteers about weather delays and schedule changes.

KEY REMINDERS

  • Rules questions: Don't give rulings. Refer players to the Rules number on their scorecard and an NYSGA official will come to them.
  • Spotting: Never touch a ball in play. Let the player identify it.
  • Players: If players engage with you during a round, keep conversations short so play keeps moving. Please do not initiate conversations unless required.
  • Carts: Return your cart to the staging area (TBA) as soon as your shift ends. Carts can't be used to watch the championship, but you're welcome to watch on foot before or after your shift.
  • Emergencies: Call 911 first for anything serious, then call the NYSGA. For anything else, Deb Spilman.
  • Enjoy it! Players are grateful for your support.

COMMUNICATIONS
The NYSGA will send daily reminders and updates by email and text through this Golf Genius portal.
